Background. The proposed article is devoted to the issue of the formation of an effective system of foreign trade regulation in Ukraine, especially its import component. Consideration of the problem is based on the analysis of import consumption in the Ukrainian economy.
Review of scientific sources in this area indicates that scientists conduct discussions on the impact of import on the economic development. The impact of tariff and non-tariff restrictions on the competitiveness of domestic products is investigated in a small number among the existing works. However, there is a need to explore the tendencies and consequenses of increasing import consumption in the economy of Ukraine.
Results. Scientific literature has been analyzed on the subject of the interpretation of the term "import consumption". Definition of import consumption has been proposed and import consumption scope by the indexes of import dependence, export-orientation and inward-orientation of industry has been estimated. Trends of the use of imported goods on goals of intermediate, final consumption and gross formation have been analyzed. The basic tendencies of import consumption in Ukraine's economy has been determined. Definition of import consumption as the use of imported goods in order to ensure economic processes associated with its use in various sectors of social production has been proposed.
Conclusion. Thus, it may be noted that icreasing import consumpion has caused to domestic producers disaapearance from internal market of Ukraine. The amount of import in intermediate consumption is encreasing which tends to cause the increasing import dependency of industry in details, equipment etc. Exchange rate fluctation influences directly the cost of import product, that can be a stimulation factor for price competitiveness of domestic-produced items. The practical significance of the obtained results is the possibility of using the proposed articles of theoretical and practical developments to improve the regulation meсhanism of import in Ukraine.
